Mayor Sylvester Turner recently appointed Sanjay “Ram” Ramabhadran as the new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO). LINK Houston looks forward to continuing to work with Mr. Ramabhadran and the METRO leadership to ensure transit improvements advance equity, especially in communities of color where transportation infrastructure and service investments have lagged for decades.
The new appointment leaves an empty seat on the Board, providing an opportunity for the mayor to advance equity by appointing an individual who actively and regularly rides transit in the Houston region. LINK Houston sent a letter to Mayor Turner, urging him to consider such an appointment. We believe the perspectives of active transit users at the decision-making table will shape improvements for METRO riders to reach opportunities.
We invite you to join our advocacy effort and let Mayor Turner know you support appointing an individual with lived experience who truly understands the challenges of using transit, including walking, rolling, and/or biking to access transit in the Houston region.
