Join us on February 4 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. for a panel including some of Houston’s newest transportation leaders as we discuss equitable mobility in our region. LINK Houston is hosting this event in observance of Transit Equity and Rosa Parks Day.
February 4th marks the birthday of Rosa Parks, whose peaceful protest of segregation in the public transit system in 1955 led to a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement and national attention to the socio-economic inequalities and inequities faced by African Americans.
More work remains to reduce inequities, particularly when it comes to mobility and climate justice. LINK Houston’s own research in 2020 found that 793,000 people in Houston, especially individuals and families in low-income and communities of color, need more affordable transportation options, such as walking, rolling, biking, and riding public transit. METRONext, the Houston Bike Plan, Harris County and City of Houston Vision Zero plans have the potential to significantly improve equity in our area by shifting how we move throughout the region. These mobility initiatives also play a role in advancing environmental justice in a region battling climate change impacts.
The Equitable Mobility in Our Region will be the second and final panel in our series to introduce some of Houston’s newest transportation leaders and to hear their policy goals. Join us for this important discussion as we celebrate Transit Equity and Rosa Parks Day.
