Misperceptions abound when it comes to public transit – from the makeup of transit riders to the types of services presently available. Decisionmakers and community leaders need a cohesive understanding and straightforward story about the role of transit in the region.
Through our Equity in Transit event, LINK Houston aims to focus on people, including the difficult but surmountable challenge of connecting communities to employment, education, grocery stores, health care, affordable housing, and other components of a compelling quality of life.
We will present our first Equity in Transit report, which will examine a variety of transit services and the diverse demographics of transit users, as well as the accessibility, reliability, frequency, and availability (span of hours) of these services.
Following the report presentation, the event will proceed with a panel discussion by Christof Spieler of Huitt-Zollars, Dr. Alex Karner, of the University of Texas School of Architecture, Dr. Carol Lewis of Texas Southern University, and moderator Linda Cherrington of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.
Houston Community College, Central Campus is accessible by METRO Red Line light rail or Bus 9 as well as Houston B-Cycle.
