LINK Houston urges the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Harris County to consider multiple mobility options in their plans for COVID-19 vaccination distribution at NRG and additional sites so that people with disabilities, those without access to a vehicle, and aging persons who no longer drive are able to access vaccination sites. Our specific recommendations are:

  • Allow walk-up access with clear, safe routes for people walking or using a wheelchair;
  • Place vaccination distribution sites near existing high-frequency transit locations;
  • Designate a location for people on bikes to park;
  • Ensure that police or other traffic personnel secure the safety of people approaching outside of a car; and
  • Continue to advise residents if there is a vaccination distribution site closer to their current location.
