LINK Houston is deeply disappointed with today’s outcome at the H-GAC TPC meeting. As stated in our remarks, any working group with a directive to develop an MOU regarding the NHHIP should mainly include representatives from the five agencies who will sign such an agreement and should not include an overwhelming majority of members who do not represent the neighborhoods, people and businesses along the project corridor. Houstonians, especially those who will be directly impacted by the highway expansion, deserve better. TPC members who represent rural and suburban areas must not get the green light to destroy people’s livelihoods and cost the City of Houston an estimated $300 million each year through lost tax revenue. The MOU for the NHHIP must ensure Mayor Turner’s vision – based on significant community input – is realized so the project will in fact have benefits for all Texans.
